Supernatural Endowments: Benefits of Salvation. Part 2. The power of the Spirit

When a man is born again, he has received the Spirit. He is born of the Spirit. This enables him to have the supernatural abilities of the same spirit he is born of . In the part one of this series, we established that salvation in Christ is having the Spirit and being born of the Spirit.

Ephesians 1

 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

The word of truth is the gospel of your salvation. The Holy Spirit is a seal; a sign that we belong to God. It is this Spirit that marks us out as God’s possessions.

Romans 8

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

The man that is born again is brought forth from the flesh into the Spirit. He is now in the Spirit by nature, hence he should not struggle with any thing Spiritual. Every believer has the Spirit but the issue many times is walking in the Spirit. Knowing that we have the Spirit of God and we are born of the Spirit, we have to learn THE POWER OF THAT SPIRIT we have received.

There is nothing ordinary about having the Holy ghost. One of the greatest blessing you should never forget is that when you have the Holy ghost, you have POWER . Jesus told his disciples to wait until they receive the Holy Ghost and be endued with power .

Luke 24

 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

The promise of the father is the Holy Spirit that they received. This will cause them to be endued with power. Notice the use of the word “endued” . It means to be clothed with , or to put on. So we can put on the POWER of the Holy Ghost as believers. The power is within us. We can wear it for impossible situations. The Bible is full of reports of how men did impossible things because of the power of the Spirit. See what the angel told Mary when she asked how her conception will be possible?

Luke 1

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Notice the Holy Ghost shall come upon you even/and the power of the Most High shall come upon you. This experience is what will make the word put on flesh in Mary without sexual activity with a man . It is the power of the Spirit. Let’s see what Paul the Apostle said about the power of the Spirit.

Romans 15

 19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Paul speaks about the power of the Spirit. Paul said, Mighty, Signs and Wonders was by the POWER OF the Spirit. In the ability of the Spirit, we have mighty signs and wonders.

How to fully preach the gospel is through mighty signs and wonders.

The same Spirit we have received has the power to do mighty signs and wonders. Miracle is not the message but it attest to the message. It is the proof of a living Jesus. So you want to work miracles, signs and wonders? Remember it is by the POWER of the Spirit. You must learn to wear this power for Miracles. This power is so mighty that Paul told us to pray to know it. Really, if you know how mighty the power of the Spirit is, you will not fear impossible situations. Let’s see how this power is described in Ephesians 1.

16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: note

 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.The problem of some believers is walking in the Spirit and not being in the Spirit.

Paul’s prayer was for them to have precise and accurate knowledge about the riches of their inheritance in Christ. Part of this glorious inheritance is the exceeding greatness of God’s power at work in us. It is the power of the Spirit. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the grave. Let’s see the adjectives used to describe this power in verse 19. Remember it is the power that you have. It is the power that you can put on from within you for miracles, signs and wonders.

This power that you have is “exceeding” . This word is from the Greek word “huperballō”. It means to throw beyond the usual mark, that is, to surpass, excel, or pass. This means that this power always go beyond target . This power will always overdo what is it applied on. This means if you use this power to heal headache , it will heal the headache and go beyond to correct the immune system. This power was used to feed 5,000 men beside women and children with five loaves of bread and two fishes(Matthew 14:13-21). It went beyond and there were 12 baskets of left overs . God does exceeding. It is in His nature and His power to exceed target . This means that you want to use this power to know a fact , it will go beyond and you will know many other facts about a person, place or thing . As we continue in this series to look at the abilities in the Spirit, remember it is the power that exceeds target that is being used. You can use this power to open a blind eyes and the person will even start seeing beyond normal human being. It is the exceeding power at work in you.

Another adjective use to describe this power that you have is greatness. It is from the Greek word “megethos”. It means magnitude or greatness. This shows that this power is the height of greatness. It is great in appearance, rank and use . There is no power that can be compared to this power that you have. It is the greatest power in magnitude.

The next word used to describe this power is “dunamis”. It means inherent power, strength and miracle working ability. This word was used as wonderful works in Matthew 7:22 and mighty works in other places like Matthew 11:20. This shows us that this power is inherent in us for wonders and miracles. Remember Paul said , mighty (miracle :dunamis), signs and wonders were wrought by him by the power (dunamis; inherent miracle working ability) of the Spirit. So you can not have this power and struggle to work miracles . It is either you have not comprehended this power or you don’t know how to put it on and use it for impossible situations. Notice it is called HIS Power in verse 19. The power is of God but it is inherent in you the believer.

Another word used to describe this power is “working “. This is from the word “energeia”. It means efficiency energy- operation, strong, (effectual) working. This shows that this power is always efficiently and effectually working. So you can never meet this power unavailable for a particular task. It is always available and efficient. It is working. All you need do is to switch it on for a particular task .

The next thing we see is that this power is “mighty”. This is from the word “ischus”. It means force, ability or might. This shows that there is nothing you can put on this power that will be too much for it. There is no situation that you can used this power for that will be too much for it. This power has weight for anything. It is the power of God in me.

Finally we see “kratos” used for this power . This shows that this power is mighty with strength and dominion. This power can swallow up circumstances and situations. Peter preached with this power in Acts 2 , over 3,000 persons got saved . It is what this power that you have can do. Peter gave this power to a lame man from birth at the Beautiful gate and he began to walk even after 40 years of being lame in Acts 3. Reading through Genesis to Revelation, you see how this power was used. Jesus in the power of the Spirit did mighty works. When He was leaving the earth, He told His disciples to do greater works.

John 14

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Jesus linked these greater works to His going to the father. If you read down the same chapter, you will see that His going to the father is the giving of the Spirit. So we do greater works because we have the Spirit. It will no more be one Jesus in one place but many “Jesuses” doing the same wonderful works. This is because Jesus now lives in us . So the greater works are seen in quantity and not doing greater works than Jesus. It is seen in quantity because now there are more persons in Christ doing what only Jesus did while on the earth in Isreal. Hallelujah , He is in us today doing the same works.

Greater works is not out doing Jesus. It simply means more people with the power of the Spirit. It is in quantity not quality.

See what Peter said about this Jesus.

Acts 10: 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Jesus went about doing good because He was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. He was so good that he opened blind eyes . He was philanthropic with the power of God. His philanthropy was POWER. So we must learn from Jesus.

So now that we know that the Spirit we have received is accompanied with power , what manner of men should we be ?

• We must be fully convinced with the power of God. We must so know that we have power the same way we know our gender as male or female. We must have precise and accurate knowledge of it. Remember your knowledge must be centered on the fact that YOU HAVE THIS POWER. No body doubts that God has power. What makes us effective with the power of God is knowing that God’s power is in us . It is the acknowledging of this truth that enables us to be bold with God’s power . We have it . Yes we do . Let your eyes be flooded with light as it concerns God’s power . The greatest miracles I have seen are times when I have complete reliance on God’s power . I remember praying for a girl who has short sightedness and double vision from birth, after introducing this mighty power to her , she agreed and I served her this power in the eyes. The defect got corrected in less than 5 minutes. She could see clearly without any of the symptoms again and without any aid . It is the power of the Spirit. I have seen several healings and miracles trusting on the power of God’s Spirit. I have started and stopped rain with this power . I have seen food multiply with this power . It works . It always works . Oh yes it does . God has blessed us with power in Christ. Healing miracles, miracles of nature, all kinds of miracles are possible by the power of God.

• We must renew our mind with the power of the Spirit. Let’s this power be your contemplations. Study the things that this power accomplished in the scriptures and see yourself doing same. Meditate on the power of God.

• We must learn to trust the power of God and command with this power. When it comes to the power of God, remember never ever to take NO for an answer. Remember this power ALWAYS works. There are no exceptions with the power of God. When it comes to the power of God, we can be very certain it will work.

• We must be solely given to prayers. Prayer is not to give us power . It is a way we work in the consciousness of this power . In prayer especially praying in tongues we put the power of God into operation and we get acquainted with this power . Pray. Pray . Pray . Never ever stop praying. Be a man of prayer . You will enjoy much more this power of the Spirit.

So far we have seen that when a man is born again, he has the Holy Ghost. This makes him to be very powerful. Such a man is one with God. He has all of God’s power. Subsequently in this series, we will look at our supernatural endowments (gifts of and gifts by the Spirit) that we use this power to manifest. Remember, You have Power because you have the Holy Ghost. Hallelujah.
