SPIRITUAL ENDOWMENTS: BENEFITS OF SALVATION. PART 1

The Benefits of Salvation; Spiritual Endowments. PART 1

The man that is born again is born with several supernatural endowments. The new birth experience is an ordination into the realm of power and supernatural abilities. These abilities come naturally as benefits of salvation. Learning your supernatural abilities begins with understanding the nature of the new birth experience which is supernatural.

What happens when a man is born again?

Let’s examine some scriptures to understand the new birth experience.

John 3

1        There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2        The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Note

3        Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he     cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again

Nicodemus told Jesus ‘No man can do these miracles except God be with Him’.

Jesus turned water into wine in chapter two of the gospel of John. Nicodemus would have witnessed or heard of some of Jesus’ miracles and signs. Nicodemus from his knowledge of Genesis to Malachi knows that what it takes to do miracles is to have God with a man. Miracles serve as signs to show that God is with a man. Jesus answered Nicodemus by introducing him to a greater miracle which is the miracle of salvation. So Jesus told him, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom. When a man is born again, he can perceive the kingdom of God. God is a spirit, hence the kingdom of God  here cannot be speaking of a physical place .  Paul says in Romans 14 : 17 that the kingdom of God is in the Holy Ghost. John uses water to speak of the Spirit just like the prophets. In John 4, Jesus told the woman at the well that He will give her the well of water springing up into eternal life . This speaks of the new birth experience that quenches our taste and allows us to have the Spirit and life of God . In John 7, Jesus cries out that men can come drink of Him.

John 7:  37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.39  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Jesus is the giver of the Holy Ghost. Out of His belly comes the Spirit according to what is prophesied by the scriptures. Out of Jesus’ glorification ( His resurrection and ascension into our heart) men received the Spirit. Let’s see some speakings of the prophets on having the spirit at the new birth.

Ezekiel 36

25  Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27  And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Notice verse 25 speaks of sprinkling the water on us. This is further explained as the giving of the spirit. It is God that does everything from start to finish. It is the Spirit we receive in Christ that makes us pure. Now we have God’s righteousness in the spirit He has given us . The Prophet prophesied of what God will do in Christ in that men will have the Spirit within them .

Isaiah also spoke of men having the spirit as the blessing.

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring

These prophecies about men having the spirit is finally fulfilled in the man in Christ.

When a man is born again, he is born of the Spirit. He becomes one with the Holy Ghost. He becomes the dwelling place of God’s Spirit.

1 John 3

23  And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

24  And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

The man that has kept the greatest commandment which is to believe in Jesus abides in God and God in him by the spirit He has given us .

The saved man has been redeemed from the curses of the law. He has the blessing of Abraham in that he has the promised Spirit .

Galatians 3

13  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith

Notice it is a singular blessing not blessings. The blessing is the promised of the Spirit that is finally fulfilled in us when we get saved .

Ephesians 2

21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

We are a habitation of God through the Spirit. We are His dwelling place .

Romans 8

9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

When a man is saved , he is marked out by the Spirit of God which makes him to belong to God. Such a saved man is lead (brought forth ) from the flesh into the spirit. This spirit is what placed us as sons of God. This is the key to every ability of the spirit. A man who has the spirit cannot lack the abilities of the SPIRIT. It is either he doesn’t know that he has these abilities or he doesn’t know how to use them.

Ephesians 1 tells us that in Christ we are blessed with all spiritual blessings.

Ephesians 1

3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory

There is nothing spiritual that we lack in Christ. These abilities are our supernatural endowments. The greatest blessing that a man can have is to have God in him through God’s Spirit. It is the key to every ability that is in God . Supernatural abilities are our natural endowments in Christ. Paul calls these endowments 9 gifts in 1 Corinthians 12. Don’t forget the SPIRIT is the gift we receive at salvation. By the virtue of having the Spirit we have the gifts/abilities of the Spirit. In  subsequent parts of this series, we will explain these spiritual abilities that we have in Christ.
